ZAMBOANGA CITY — Authorities reported that at least four members of the Abu Sayyaf Group believed to be operating in Luuk, Sulu surrendered to the Region 9's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
CIDG Regional Field Unit 9 director Police Col John Francis Encinareal said the four ASG members yielded through the concerted efforts of other police and military units operating in Sulu on Sunday.
The former ASG members were identified as Amjah Arah alias Arah, Asali Maali alias Asah, Majing Aminulla alias Majing and Aidil Akdam Sadidul, all residents of Sitio Kanjawali, Tanduh Bato in Luuk.
According to Encinareal, Arah, Sadidul and Majing were all operating under ASG subleader Sansibar Bensio who is involved in kidnapping activities. They were also involved in the encounter between the Philippine Marines in February 2018 at Barangay Banday in Panamao, Sulu.
Asah, on the other hand, was one of the followers of ASG sub-leader Abdugamar Abbang who was involved in different atrocities in Sulu province.
Encinareal said the four former ASG are now undergoing custodial debriefing at the Police Regional Intelligence Unit 9.
He added that the four will be released to their relatives and respective local government units after the debriefing.
