Sulu ASG members fall

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Authorities disclosed on Thursday that at least six members of the extremist Abu Sayyaf Group have surrendered to authorities in the island province of Sulu.

Area Police Command-Western Mindanao operations chief Col. Richard Verceles identified the surrenderers as Samir Baddiri Undali; Eddie Anuddin Antuyan; Moh. Marvie Mauldani Bahjin; Satrina Gappal; Walda Misuari Basser; and Sirad Aidarus Jumadil.

Verceles said the group yielded to the police's 84th Special Action Company around 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Camp Julasirim Kasim in Barangay Asturias, Jolo, Sulu.

Verceles said the surrender was facilitated by the 84SAC, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, and Military Intelligence Group through the SAF CARES Program.

The SAF CARES is designed to promote peacebuilding and socio-economic development in local communities where Special Action Force units are deployed.

The 7th Special Action Battalion, 84SAC head unit, temporarily took custody of the six ASG surrenderers for proper disposition and documentation.
