Cebu gets P1.365-B quake, typhoon aid

After a year of waiting, Cebu Province has received P1.365 billion in national government assistance for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructure and facilities damaged by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake and typhoon "Tino" in 2025.
An additional P777 million in funding support was also provided to the Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas (DPWH-7) for its ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction projects related to the two disasters.
Among the local government units receiving assistance, Bogo City got the biggest allocation at P180 million, followed by the Municipality of Liloan with P115 million. San Remigio and Cebu Province each received P100 million, while Danao City was allocated P75 million.
The municipalities of Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Daanbantayan, Compostela, Consolacion, Medellin, Tabogon and Tabuelan, as well as the cities of Toledo, Mandaue and Talisay, each received P50 million.
San Francisco was allocated P25 million, while Asturias and Balamban received P20 million each. The island municipalities of Tudela, Poro and Pilar in Camotes received P10 million each.
Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro welcomed the assistance, saying it would help the province complete its recovery program, particularly the reconstruction of damaged bridges.
“This would really help us complete our recovery program, so gagamitin namin for the reconstruction of some bridges. So what is intended for the disaster projects should go to the projects. There’s no room for corruption,” Baricuatro said during her speech in Malacañang.
The national government determined the amount of assistance for each local government unit based on damage assessment reports submitted to the Office of Civil Defense.
