Ramos bags bronze

The Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas (SWP) raves about Rose Jean Ramos, who captured a bronze medal at the IWF World Weightlifting Championships in Ningbo, China.
SWP president Monico Puentevella told DAILY TRIBUNE that Ramos’ podium finish was an encouraging start for the five-member Philippine delegation as the competition marks the beginning of the qualifying period for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Ramos secured bronze in the women’s 49-kilogram snatch event after lifting 86 kilograms on Tuesday.
“One down. She’s our first on the mound. Four more to go,” Puentevella said in an online conversation.
“The future looks bright. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas.”
Rosegie Ramos was competing in the women’s 53kg division at press time, seeking to improve on her fourth-place finish at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
Also representing the Philippines are Asian Games bronze medalist Albert Ian delos Santos in the men’s 70kg division, along with Elreen Ando and Kristel Macrohon in the women’s 69kg category.
Ramos, who missed out on qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics, said she intends to apply the lessons from the previous qualifying campaign as she pursues another shot at the Games.
“I will apply the lessons I learned in the previous qualifier as I continue my training,” Ramos said.
“I need to focus and make myself stronger. My opponents were stronger, and I need to make sure I can catch up.”
