Dear Atty. Nico,

Joji Alonso·3 September 2026

  • Arellano University puts its unbeaten record on the line when it battles fellow National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) squad University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in the V-League Collegiate Challenge on Saturday at the Gameville Central Park in Mandaluyong City.

The Lady Chiefs shoot for a fourth straight win, but they cannot afford to be complacent in their 3 p.m. duel with the dangerous Lady Altas while University of Santo Tomas (UST) and University of the East (UE), who are tied with Perpetual at 1-1, clash in the other women’s match at 5 p.m.

In the men’s division, three-peat-seeking Far Eastern University finally makes its debut in the men’s division as it collides with Mapua University at 12 noon while Arellano seeks to join idle Letran College on top at 3-1 when it tangles with De La Salle University in the 10 a.m. opener.

With Heart Villaflores and Cris Servidad at the attack zone, the Lady Chiefs have been impressive so far, highlighted by a 25-21, 21-25, 31-33, 25-23, 15-13 reverse sweep of the Tigresses.

Prior to that, the Lady Chiefs booked another five-set victory, a 19-25, 25-17, 34-32, 16-25, 15-7 squeaker over the College of Saint Benilde a week ago.

Meanwhile, the Lady Altas are eyeing their first winning streak of the tournament. After being swept by Adamson in the opener, Perpetual upended San Beda University, 25-22, 28-26, 21-25, 25-21, last 22 August.

One advantage the Lady Altas hope to capitalize on is a good recovery after their supposed 30 August showdown with the Tigresses was postponed due to bad weather.

UST hopes to rebound from a tough five-set loss to Arellano last 22 August with Angge Poyos leading the charge.

The Tigresses must be wary of the Lady Warriors, who, after opening their bid with a five-set win over the Lady Blazers, came crashing back to earth with an 18-25, 23-25, 16-25 defeat to the Lady Falcons last 23 August.

Rookie Janessa Buhay, a former Adamson high school standout, has been a major contributor for UE after two matches.
