Defending champion Criss Cross preserved its pristine record and extended its winning streak to five after sweeping AEP-Cabstars, 25-15, 25-12, 25-20, in the Spikers’ Turf Season 10 Invitational Conference on Sunday at the Playtime FilOil Centre in San Juan.

Francis Saura took care of the offense with the King Crunchers resting some of their key players as he finished with game-high 13 points on 10 attacks, two blocks, and an ace in the 71-minute victory.

“I’m happy with what the team has accomplished. We won today because as much as possible, we tried to follow Coach Tai’s (Bundit) system, which gave us a great result,” Saura said.

“That’s why we’re at 5-0 now because we follow the system of coach Tai.”

Criss Cross hardly missed a beat despite sitting out Noel Kampton, Amil Pacinio, Manuel Sumanguid and Lloyd Josafat to give exposure to other players in its deep roster.

Jude Garcia chipped in 11 points on seven attacks, three blocks, and one ace for the King Crunchers. Lucca Mamone and Poy Colinares also stepped up with seven points apiece, while Nico Almendras contributed five.

Jaron Requinton, Rex Intal and Kennedy Batas added three points each for the King Crunchers, who limited their errors to just nine compared to the Cabstars’ 22.

AEP absorbed its second straight defeat to fall to a 1-4 card in ninth.

Dave Lardizabal was the lone double-digit scorer for the Cabstars with 10 points, while John Santiagudo and Leo Aringo added eight and six points, respectively, in the loss.

Meanwhile, Far Eastern University-DN Steel beat erstwhile undefeated ClearSkiiin, 27-29, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21, to snap a two-game skid and improve to a 3-2 slate.

Charles Absin exploded for 23 points on 17 attacks, five kill blocks, and one ace to lead the Tamaraws, who handed the UV Smashers their first defeat after a 4-0 start for a tie with National University-Archipelago Builders.

ClearSkiiin threatened to force a decider when Angela Gayud scored a cross-court kill to pull the team to within one, 20-21, late in the fourth frame.
