National University (NU)-Archipelago Builders vented its ire on winless Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in a mighty rebound win, 25-14, 25-16, 25-19, in the Spikers’ Turf Season 10 Invitational Conference on Saturday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Jade Disquitado led two other Bulldogs in double-digit scoring in the 72-minute total domination of the Cavaliers for a 4-1 win-loss record.

The Alas Pilipinas standout finished with 13 points, including four kill blocks, while his NU and national squad teammates Leo Ordiales and Buds Buddin added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Buddin and Ordiales got nine spikes each in the Bulldogs’ 44 attack points.

NU controlled the pace of the game and took advantage of its up-tempo game to tire the undermanned and much older AFP counterparts as the Bulldogs recovered from a four-set loss to defending champion Criss Cross last Wednesday.

“We worked on our service and reception. We struggled on those things, that’s why we couldn’t defend well during our game against Criss Cross,” Bulldogs setter Greg Ancheta said.

“For me as a setter, I felt that in that game against Criss Cross I was a little too eager. So, my mindset today is to stay calm and stay with the tempo we set in the game.”

Ancheta tallied 19 excellent sets and held his own against his mentor and AFP setter Jessie Lopez, who had 10 excellent sets.

The Cavaliers, who played with just 11 available players, suffered a seventh straight defeat in as many games.

Pol Gringo and James Buytrago scored eight points each while Joshua Barrica had six points for AFP.
