Police arrested a 34-year-old burglary suspect Thursday after officers tracked his location using the active GPS feature on a stolen iPad.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Police Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio identified the suspect Friday by his alias, “Bong,” who was apprehended for robbing a home in Barangay Greater Fairview.
According to police, a mother and daughter returned to their residence around 6:30 a.m. Thursday and found their door lock forcibly damaged and several personal items missing. They immediately reported the break-in to the Fairview Police Station, prompting officers led by Police Lt. Col. Albert Relente to initiate a follow-up operation.
Investigators discovered that the stolen iPad A16 had an active location-tracking signal. Officers used the live coordinates to trace the suspect to Pasong Putik, where they took him into custody around 3 p.m. the same day.
Police recovered the iPad A16, a G-Shock wristwatch, an iPhone 16, a GCash card, an HP backpack and a mustard-colored Michael Kors wallet from the suspect. The stolen items have a total estimated value of P51,600.
Silvio said the suspect will face robbery charges before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
“This incident demonstrates how technology aids in the rapid response and resolution of crime,” Silvio said. “Through the active GPS of the stolen iPad, our personnel were able to pinpoint and follow the suspect’s whereabouts until his arrest. We will continue to use all legitimate methods and technology to protect our citizens and hold lawbreakers accountable.”
