Universal Robina Corporation (URC) has inaugurated its 31-hectare Malvar Mega Plant, strengthening its manufacturing capacity as the food and beverage company marks its 70th anniversary.

Designed as URC’s “Factory of the Future,” the facility combines advanced manufacturing technologies, digitalization, automation and sustainable engineering to improve operational efficiency, product quality and workplace safety.

“For 70 years, URC has taken pride in delighting generations of consumers with good food choices,” URC president and chief executive officer Irwin C. Lee said.

“Seven years in the making, the Malvar Mega Plant is a testament to that commitment as we continue to strengthen our capabilities and delight consumers with quality food choices for generations to come,” he added.

The inauguration brought together company executives, government officials, industry partners, employees and members of the Malvar community for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the lowering of a time capsule. DT

URC chairman Lance Y. Gokongwei described the facility as a cornerstone of the company's next phase of growth.

“We have been part of the everyday lives of millions of families — from their first cup of coffee in the morning, to the iconic snacks and beverages they enjoy with family and friends,” Gokongwei said.

“But staying close to the heart of Filipino families also means we must continue to evolve, innovate, and prepare for the future. This mega plant marks an important new chapter in our journey. It is a cornerstone of our next phase of growth and a symbol of our commitment to the future,” he added.

Malvar Mayor Artemio “Tom” C. Abu said the facility is expected to generate opportunities for the municipality through jobs, economic growth and partnerships.

The plant was developed under a long-term master plan that allows the site to expand alongside URC’s operations. Its layout is designed to optimize the movement of people and materials while maintaining food safety, quality and operational standards.

The facility currently produces URC snack brands Piattos and Mang Juan. A new bakery facility and ready-to-drink manufacturing operation are also in the pipeline as the site expands in the coming years.

The investment comes as the Philippine food manufacturing industry continues to grow. Philippine Statistics Authority data showed the manufacture of food products grew 6.2 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2025, making it the largest contributor to manufacturing growth during the period.

URC produces brands including Great Taste, C2 Cool & Clean, Piattos, Maxx and Cream-O. The company is also expanding its presence across Southeast Asia.
