The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that the Coast Guard Station Zamboanga (CGS Zamboanga) rescued 32 people from a fire at Barangay Sangli in Zamboanga City on 14 August 2024.

The said rescue operation was carried out by the Coast Guard Sub-Station Sangali (CGSS Sangali) and the Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) 3004 at around 1:25AM of the said date.

The rescue teams immediately responded to a reported fire incident at Purok 2, Barangay Sangali, Zamboanga City, aboard AB-263 and coordinated with MCS-3004 for the deployment of a rubber boat to conduct search and rescue (SAR), firefighting operations, and emergency assistance.

Upon arrival at the incident area, the Coast Guard firefighting team immediately commenced firefighting operations to help contain the fire along the shoreline. Simultaneously, the team conducted evacuation and rescue operations, prioritizing the safety of affected families, including an eight-month-old infant and a pregnant woman.

A total of 32 individuals were successfully rescued and safely transported to the CGSS Sangali Office for immediate safety and assistance. All rescued individuals were subsequently properly turned over to Barangay Sangali officials and temporarily sheltered at the Barangay Hall, where they were assessed to be in good condition and accounted for.

At approximately 3:52AM, the ground commander, Fire Inspector Garipole Dagalea, BFP, officially declared the fire under control. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting inter-agency disaster response efforts, safeguarding lives, and providing swift and timely assistance to communities affected by emergencies.
