  • Tropical depression “Luis” brought widespread rains across much of the country Sunday, forcing the suspension of sea travel in Catanduanes as state weather forecasters warned of strong winds and heavy rainfall in parts of Luzon.

The Philippine Coast Guard suspended all sea trips to and from Catanduanes, saying vessel movements would remain halted while weather conditions remained unsafe.

As of 4 p.m. Sunday, the center of Luis was estimated at 258 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal 1 remained hoisted over the Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, the northern portion of Camarines Sur and the northern portion of Catanduanes.

Tropical Depression Luis continues to bring heavy rains and strong winds across parts of Luzon, prompting the suspension of sea travel in Catanduanes as PAGASA warns of possible flooding, landslides and rough sea conditions.PAGASA said the combined effects of Luis and the southwest monsoon, or habagat, would continue to bring widespread rains and strong to gale-force wind gusts over several parts of the country on Monday.

Authorities advised residents in affected areas to remain alert for possible flooding, landslides and rough seas, while travelers were urged to monitor weather advisories before proceeding with their trips.

The weather bureau continued to monitor the movement of Luis and said further updates would be issued as conditions evolved.
