The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Central Visayas destroyed P676.66 million worth of illegal drugs on Tuesday, marking the region’s largest single disposal of confiscated narcotics on record.
The destruction burned 99.45 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, along with 2.54 kilograms of marijuana, 18 grams of ephedrine, 8 milliliters of liquid Nalbuphine hydrochloride, and expired regulated pharmaceuticals.
The seized substances date back to operations as far as 2017.
PDEA director general Undersecretary Isagani Nerez oversaw the procedure alongside representatives from the Cebu City Government, Police Regional Office 7, the Regional Trial Court, and other legally required witnesses.
During the event, PDEA also awarded P769,982.86 in financial rewards to four civilian informants for assisting law enforcement in key drug operations.
The operation surpassed the previous regional record set on 17 December 2025, when authorities destroyed P468.08 million in contraband, including 68.82 kilograms of shabu and 866 grams of marijuana.
Nerez said the routine public destruction reinforces official transparency and guarantees that seized evidence is permanently removed from potential resale.
