Liza Soberano has spoken candidly about one of the most uncertain chapters of her life, revealing that the criticism she faced after pursuing opportunities abroad left her questioning what would be waiting for her if she returned to the Philippines.
The actress admitted that the negative reactions took an emotional toll, making her worry not only about her career but also about whether she would still have a place among the people she loved after spending years away.
“I actually received a lot of kind of backlash from that, and so I was scared of leaving the Philippines because of that backlash. I was scared that I won’t have a career to come back to, or friends and family that would still care about me after being away for so long.”
Soberano said those feelings eventually found an unexpected reflection in her role in Forgotten Island. Through the film, she rediscovered the idea that genuine connections are not easily erased by distance.
“Through this film, I realized that even when you are going away from home or leaving a few people behind, you have all these memories and you have this deep connection and relationship that you can always come back to.”
For Soberano, the experience became more than just another acting project. It reminded her that while careers may evolve and life may lead people to different places, the bonds formed with those who truly matter can remain a constant source of comfort and belonging.
