The Cainta municipal government will open two daytime infant care centers next year to provide temporary care for babies whose parents, particularly single mothers, are at work.

In an interview over the weekend, Mayor Keith Nieto said the facilities will be located in Floodway, Barangay San Andres, and Valley Golf, Barangay San Juan, with operations expected to begin in January.

“We will strengthen the facilities by providing all the cribs we need, installing the necessary play areas, and hiring the required personnel — including midwives, perhaps a nurse and a security guard — so I can complete the manpower requirement,” Nieto said.

“We will be able to accommodate and take care of about 20 to 30 babies per facility, or around 60 babies in total, whose parents want to work but have no one to leave their children with. At least we will be able to take care of them,” he added.

Nieto acknowledged that the initiative is new and carries some risks but said it reflects the local government’s commitment to supporting working parents.

“If there is someone at home to take care of the children, parents would naturally prefer to leave their babies there. But if that is not possible, at least they will have a government option. I will make sure the children are properly cared for so their babies will be safe,” he said.

The mayor noted that the municipality already operates daycare centers for toddlers, a youth shelter in Floodway and facilities for senior citizens.

“It’s already complete. It covers every stage of life. We just have to keep thinking of good programs that can help people,” Nieto said.
