Veteran designer Avel Bacudio paid tribute to the timeless artistry of Hablon weaving with a striking Filipiniana-inspired dress that celebrates the rich textile heritage of Panay.
Shared on Facebook with the caption, “Ikaw ay paro-paro… bulaklak naman ako,” the creation showcases a radiant orange Hablon fabric woven with traditional geometric patterns, instantly drawing attention with its warm, sunlit palette. The silhouette features a modern A-line mini dress elevated by dramatic, sculptural butterfly sleeves that lend a bold architectural touch while staying rooted in Filipino design.
The gown is adorned with oversized three-dimensional floral appliqués in deep orange and coral hues, blooming gracefully across the bodice and skirt. Flowing embroidered stems and leaves create the illusion of flowers growing organically across the fabric, while a delicate butterfly embellishment near the chest reinforces the whimsical garden-inspired theme.
By blending handcrafted Hablon textile with contemporary tailoring and vibrant floral accents, Bacudio transforms a traditional weave into a fresh, fashion-forward statement—honoring Filipino craftsmanship while showcasing its enduring elegance on the modern runway.
