The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday claimed a 30.43-percent drop in focus crimes nationwide in June, attributing the decline to intensified law enforcement operations, increased police visibility and stronger partnerships with local communities.
Among the eight focus crimes monitored by the PNP, carnapping of motor vehicles registered the steepest decline, falling 66.67 percent from 27 cases in June last year to nine this year.
Rape cases dropped by 57.25 percent, from 697 to 298, while physical injuries declined by 40.15 percent, from 406 to 243.
Other crimes also posted decreases, with homicide cases down 27.38 percent from 84 to 61; motorcycle carnapping down 25.93 percent from 189 to 140; robbery down 23.23 percent from 310 to 238; theft down 16.59 percent from 1,067 to 890; and murder down 11.60 percent from 293 to 259.
The PNP said the improvements reflected the continued implementation of its Focused Agenda through enhanced police operations, crime prevention initiatives and closer coordination with local government units, partner agencies and communities.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. welcomed the latest figures but said police officers should not become complacent.
He also credited the gains to the combined efforts of law enforcement agencies, local governments and the public.
The PNP said it would sustain intelligence-driven and community-based policing efforts to further reduce crime and strengthen public safety nationwide.
