The enduring story of Mary Magdalene is being celebrated through art and devotion in the ninth edition of “Apostola Apostolorum,” a special exhibition now open at the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Mary Magdalene in Pililla, Rizal.
Running from 5 to 25 July 2026, the exhibit brings together more than 50 images portraying one of Christianity’s most recognized and widely discussed women of faith. The collection highlights the many artistic interpretations of Mary Magdalene, reflecting centuries of religious tradition, history, and cultural devotion.
Honored by Christians as one of Jesus Christ’s most faithful followers, Mary Magdalene is believed to have come from the town of Magdala. Biblical accounts describe her as a woman healed by Jesus, a supporter of His ministry, and one of the few disciples who remained at the foot of the Cross. She also witnessed His burial and became the first to proclaim His Resurrection, earning her the title “Apostle to the Apostles.”
Beyond the canonical Gospels, early Christian writings outside the biblical canon present Mary Magdalene as a woman of remarkable wisdom and spiritual authority. These ancient texts have inspired generations of scholars, artists, and believers to revisit her place in Christian history and explore her influence beyond traditional narratives.
Now in its ninth year, “Apostola Apostolorum” continues to draw pilgrims, history enthusiasts, and devotees seeking a deeper appreciation of the saint whose unwavering faith has inspired countless works of art across generations.
