DAVAO CITY — SM City Davao and SM Lanang are strengthening their commitment to environmental sustainability this July through a series of programs aimed at promoting eco-conscious habits among shoppers and the wider community.

Among the initiatives is the Trash to Cash campaign, which began on weekends in June and will continue on 3 and 4 July at Open Parking C near the Material Recovery Facility of SM City Davao and Open Parking E at SM Lanang.

The recycling drive will then continue every first Friday and Saturday of succeeding months.

The program accepts recyclable materials including paper, plastics, PET bottles, glass, metal, tin, aluminum, cookware, and other kitchen items, with participants receiving instant rewards after dropping off items from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Trash to Cash is SM Supermalls’ long-running environmental initiative that encourages everyone to recycle and do their part in building a sustainable future,” said Leah P. Delarmente, mall manager of SM City Davao.

SM malls are also accepting old or damaged gadgets, power banks, earphones, power cords, and commercial batteries through the Electronic Waste Collection Drop Box located at Cyberzone.

The project, a partnership between Cyberzone and SM Cares, features an e-waste collection bin made from 8,400 used beverage cartons.

As part of its broader sustainability campaign, SM City Davao and SM Lanang also observe a weekly lights-off initiative every Monday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., switching off non-essential lights to promote mindful energy consumption.

The mall management said the programs reflect SM’s continuing efforts to encourage sustainable practices and greater public participation in environmental protection.
