Kia Philippines joined members of the Kia Sonet Pilipinas Club in Tanay, Rizal, to mark the owner group’s second anniversary, as the subcompact SUV passed 10,000 units sold since its local launch.
The anniversary gathering drew more than 80 Sonet units, from entry-level LX models to SX and K-Style trims. Some cars stayed close to stock. Others carried owner upgrades and personal touches.
Kia PH, a subsidiary of ACMobility, said the growth of the club has followed the Sonet’s stronger sales in the local market.
“The rapid growth of the Kia Sonet Pilipinas Club over the past year is a phenomenal reflection of the vehicle’s sustained momentum in the market,” Jay Lopez, managing director of Kia Philippines, said.
“This milestone is an achievement we share entirely with our proud owners. As the Kia Sonet becomes a staple on local roads, it is this passionate, ever-expanding community that truly brings our vision of mobility to life.”
The club said attendance has grown from its first anniversary, which had 60 participants.
“The club has experienced good growth over the past year. Since our first anniversary, when we hosted 60 participants, our numbers have jumped, and we now have over 80 participants,” Len Bonacua, Kia Sonet Pilipinas Club president, said.
“Seeing the turnout and all the new cars is truly rewarding, and we are thrilled to welcome so many new members to the family.”
The weekend event included a convoy and activities for older members and recent buyers. Owners also used the meet to exchange advice on maintenance, accessories and daily use.
One owner, Abby Sucalit, said the club has become one of the highlights of her Sonet ownership experience.
“Being part of this community has been a major highlight of my ownership experience, as members are always quick to answer any questions I have,” Sucalit said.
“The camaraderie creates a sense of belonging that truly makes you feel like part of a family.”
The anniversary drive covered roads in Tanay, including short unpaved sections. Kia PH said the route showed why the Sonet has appealed to buyers who need a small SUV for daily city use and weekend trips.
The Sonet uses a 1.5-liter Smartstream engine paired with an Intelligent Variable Transmission. It also has 205 millimeters of ground clearance, which gives it added room over rougher roads and uneven surfaces.
“The drive to the campsite was an absolute blast, with the Sonet’s high ground clearance making mud and rough terrain a breeze to take on,” Janina Baguilat, Kia Sonet Pilipinas Club member, said.
“Even on the twistiest asphalt roads, this compact SUV stays incredibly grippy and planted with minimal body roll.”
Kia PH also cited Kia DriveWise, the brand’s advanced driver assistance system. The suite includes Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist and Lane Follow Assist.
Lopez said Kia PH will continue to support the club as the Sonet community expands.
“Our philosophy has always centered on ‘Movement That Inspires,’ and this celebration proves that inspiration happens when passionate people connect,” Lopez added.
