More Filipino families are turning to Unified 911 during emergencies, allowing responders to coordinate faster and deliver life-saving assistance more quickly, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Friday.
The DILG said a single call to Unified 911 enables operators to immediately assess emergencies, dispatch the appropriate responders, and coordinate assistance.
The department cited several recent incidents that demonstrated the system's effectiveness.
In Dipolog City, emergency responders reached an 88-year-old woman who suffered a serious fall within five minutesafter her grandchild called 911.
In Caloocan City, an ambulance arrived just three minutes after a daughter reported that her father had collapsed and was showing signs of a stroke.
Meanwhile, in Quezon City, the Unified 911 National Call Center coordinated with local responders to rush a child experiencing a severe asthma attack to the nearest hospital.
According to the DILG, these incidents show how timely reporting can activate the country's emergency response system and make the difference between life and death.
The department encouraged Filipino families to include Unified 911 in their household emergency plans and reminded the public that staying calm and providing clear information helps responders act quickly.
"Hinihikayat namin ang bawat pamilyang Pilipino na isaisip at isapuso ang pagtawag sa 911 sa oras ng sakuna. Mahalaga ang maagap ninyong aksiyon para maligtas ang inyong mga kapamilya," the DILG said.
