Thirty-seven individuals disengaged from communist-linked and underground mass organizations in June as government authorities sustained anti-insurgency operations, the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO 1) reported Friday.
In a statement, PRO 1 said the individuals withdrew from various organizations between 1 and 30 June as part of the government’s continuing campaign against insurgency.
Of the total, 19 were former members of Communist Front Organizations (CFO) who voluntarily surrendered, while 11 individuals formally withdrew their support for the Communist-NPA Terrorist (CNT) movement.
Authorities said three former CNT members surrendered, while four former members of Underground Mass Organizations also returned to the fold of the law.
PRO 1 said the development was the result of sustained law enforcement operations, community engagement, and peace-building initiatives aimed at encouraging members and supporters of communist-linked groups to abandon armed struggle and reintegrate into society.
