Thirty-seven individuals disengaged from organizations linked by authorities to the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) in the Ilocos Region in June 2026, the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO 1) reported on Friday.
In a statement, PRO 1 said the individuals disengaged from June 1 to 30 as government authorities continued anti-insurgency efforts in the region.
According to the regional police office, 19 were former members of Communist Front Organizations (CFOs) who voluntarily surrendered, while 11 individuals formally withdrew their support for the movement. Three alleged former Communist-NPA Terrorist (CNT) members also surrendered, while four former members of Underground Mass Organizations (UGMOs) returned to the fold of the law.
PRO 1 attributed the development to sustained law enforcement operations, community engagement, and peace-building initiatives aimed at encouraging members and supporters of communist-linked groups to abandon the armed struggle and reintegrate into society.
The regional police office said it continues to implement anti-insurgency operations under the Enhanced A.L.E.R.T.O. Framework in coordination with local government units, partner agencies, and community stakeholders.
PRO 1 Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Jovencio S. Badua Jr. said the increasing number of individuals leaving communist-linked organizations reflects the government's continuing efforts to promote peace and security in the region.
"Every individual who chooses to reject violence and return to the fold of the law represents another step toward lasting peace in our communities. Through sustained law enforcement operations, community engagement, and strong collaboration with our partner agencies under the Enhanced A.L.E.R.T.O. Framework, more individuals are choosing peace over armed struggle. PRO 1 remains committed to supporting their safe reintegration into society while continuing to protect our communities and preserve peace in the Ilocos Region," Badua said.
PRO 1 said it will continue working with partner agencies and local government units to encourage more members and supporters of communist-linked groups to surrender and avail themselves of government reintegration programs.
