The Department of Justice-Office of Cybercrime (DOJ-OOC) has strengthened its engagement with social media platform TikTok following a meeting aimed at improving cooperation on cybercrime investigations and online safety.
In a statement, the DOJ-OOC said it met with TikTok Legal Policy Operations Officer Yusuke Mori to discuss the legal and operational processes governing law enforcement requests involving the platform.
The discussions covered preservation requests, requests for information, and content removal requests, including the scope, requirements, and limitations for each process.
As the country's central authority for international cooperation in cybercrime cases and the agency that issues guidelines for cybercrime investigations, the DOJ-OOC said the meeting sought to enhance coordination between government authorities and the social media platform.
The two sides also explored opportunities to expand collaboration on public awareness campaigns, digital safety initiatives, and coordinated efforts to combat cybercrime and other online threats.
The DOJ-OOC said continued engagement with technology companies is becoming increasingly important as cyber threats grow more complex and sophisticated.
It added that stronger cooperation with digital platforms will help facilitate international coordination, preserve electronic evidence, protect internet users, and support cybercrime investigations while upholding the rule of law.
