Energy sector on high alert for Holy Week

The Department of Energy (DOE) is putting the country’s power and fuel systems on high alert to keep homes lit and roads fueled during the Holy Week exodus. 

Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin said Wednesday the agency has coordinated with power generators, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines, distribution utilities, and electric cooperatives to maintain grid stability and respond quickly to any disruptions. 

Contingency teams are ready in high-traffic tourist areas, transport hubs, and island provinces to tackle sudden spikes in demand or localized outages.

To keep vehicles moving, the DOE has worked with oil companies and fuel retailers to maintain inventories and smooth operations at service stations along major roads. 

“As Filipinos observe Holy Week and travel to be with their loved ones, the Department remains fully committed to helping ensure that every journey is supported by reliable, accessible, and responsive energy services,” Garin said. 

“We stand ready with the rest of the energy sector to help keep homes powered, travel routes supported, and destinations within safer and smoother reach throughout the holiday period.”
