  • The Philippine National Police (PNP) expressed condolences Wednesday following the death of a 33-year-old officer who was killed in a road accident after completing a 24-hour security shift for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address.

Patrolman Allan Chris Heredero died early Tuesday after being run over by a 10-wheeler truck along C3 Road in Barangay 22, Caloocan, shortly after 2 a.m.

Heredero, who was assigned to the Administrative Holding Unit–Regional Mobile Force Battalion of the National Capital Region Police Office, was riding his motorcycle home when the collision occurred.

He was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital.

A relative cited that Heredero had just finished a full day of security duty and may have suffered from exhaustion before the crash. A witness reported seeing the motorcycle swerve shortly before the collision.

The truck driver, currently in police custody, told investigators he did not notice the motorcycle alongside his vehicle when the traffic light turned green. He faces preliminary charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.

PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered a complete investigation into the crash, directing local police to secure CCTV footage and witness testimony.

He also instructed the regional command to process immediate financial assistance, death benefits, and psychosocial support for Heredero’s family.

“We mourn the untimely passing of our police officer, who served with dedication during the SoNA security operations,” Nartatez said, urging commanders to monitor officer fatigue during extended deployments.

Meantime, National Police Commission (Napolcom) commissioner Rafael Calinisan also extended sympathies and pledged expedited processing of benefits for the family.

“It is painful to know that a police officer never made it home after serving the nation,” Calinisan said. “This tragedy serves as a reminder that caring for our police officers does not end with assigning a mission. We must also safeguard their well-being so they return home safely.”
