SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — Contingents from 19 municipalities and one city filled the main streets here with color and choreography during the first Battle of La Union Festivals street dancing competition on 21 February 2026, adding rhythm to the province’s 176th founding anniversary celebration.

A total of 20 contingents wowed spectators with festival-inspired routines before proceeding to the Francisco Ortega Convention Center for a collective unity dance.

Participants performed to the provincial tourism jingle while wearing costumes representing their respective local festivals. Each presentation highlighted the cultural heritage and identity of the competing towns, in line with the anniversary’s theme of provincial unity.

The Municipality of Tubao emerged as overall champion. Balaoan was named first runner-up, followed by Bangar, Pugo and Sudipen as second, third and fourth runners-up, respectively.

Several special awards were also handed out. Pugo won best street dance performance, while Balaoan was cited for best costume. Tubao received the award for best production design. Bangar secured two honors, winning best musicality and the “Reyna ti Agkaysa” (Queen of Unity) title.

Provincial officials said the competition forms part of ongoing efforts by the Provincial Government of La Union to preserve and promote local culture. The event sought to showcase each town’s traditions while strengthening solidarity among residents during the milestone anniversary.
