The Quezon City Police District together with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte carried out project Hilamos in Barangay Sikatuna and Barangay Teachers Village East this Saturday.
Aside from Belmonte and Police Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio, barangay officials from both baranggays also participated in the initiative to repaint walls that have been polluted with often graphic and explicit caricatures.
In a statement posted on Belmonte’s social media account, she said that the walls will be painted with artwork once properly cleaned and repainted.
The QC mayor also sought to remind the public that any form of vandalism is strictly prohibited under the city’s ordinance and anyone found to be committing such acts will be charged with a penalty.
Based on Sangguniang Panglungsod number 3163 of the Quezon City Council, first offenders will be charged with a fine of P1,000, P2,000 for second offense, and a fine of P3,000 for a third offense.
Aside from the fines, the ordinance also indicated that the charged offender will be made liable for the expenses needed to restore the wall or surface.
Silvio expressed gratitude for the support that Belmonte showed for the project while also assuring the public that Hilamos would allow the city to become a safer environment for its residents.
“Taos-pusong pasasalamat sa ating butihing Mayor Joy Belmonte sa kanyang buong suporta sa Project HILAMOS. Asahan po ninyo na makakatulong ang programang ito sa pagpapanatili ng kalinisan at ng mas walkable at friendly na Quezon City para sa bawat QCitizen,” he said.
