A motorcyclist died a day after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a barangay arc in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
Police identified the victim as Mark Angelo Macabangun, a resident of Barangay 6, Tonoton, Piddig, Ilocos Norte, and a native of Lasam, Cagayan. He was driving a Bajaj 125 motorcycle at the time of the incident.
Initial investigation by the Laoag City Police Station showed that at around 12:40 a.m. on 17 February 2026, Macabangun was traveling eastbound along the Laoag-Sarrat-Piddig Road (Rizal Street) in Barangay 54-B Camangaan when he reportedly lost control of the handlebars. The motorcycle overshot and crashed into the barangay arc.
DPS paramedics rushed the victim to the Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment, but he was declared dead on arrival due to multiple injuries.
The motorcycle sustained damage and was brought to the Laoag Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.
Authorities reminded motorists to exercise caution and observe traffic safety rules, especially during late-night travel.
