In a ceremony on 15 February, Maj. Gen. Leonardo I. Peña, commander of the Philippine Army 11th Infantry “Alakdan” Division and Joint Task Force Orion, presented the Philippine flag and awarded the posthumous Bronze Cross Medal to Mrs. Jenelyn C. Sabuyas, widow of SSg. Windel C. Sabuyas Jr., for his actions during the M/V Trisha Kerstin 3 maritime incident.
SSg. Sabuyas’ remains are at Camp Arturo T. Enrile, Malagutay, Zamboanga City, for vigil honors, allowing family, colleagues, and the public to pay respects. Departure and arrival honors will be rendered during the transfer of his remains to Lasam, Cagayan, where full funeral honors will be conducted.
Witnesses recalled SSg. Sabuyas assisting civilians during the disaster, demonstrating courage and dedication amid life-threatening circumstances.
Maj. Gen. Peña said SSg. Sabuyas’ actions leave a lasting example of selflessness and duty for the Philippine Army, his family, and the community.
