Under crystal chandeliers and glowing stage lights at Kempinski Central Avenue Dubai, Aquino Plotado paused quietly before accepting one of the evening’s highest honors.
On 31 January 2026, Plotado received the Global Filipino Legacy Award for Film, Real Estate, and Philanthropy at the Global Filipino Star Icon Awards, marking a defining chapter in a journey that spans business, cinema, and community building.
“This moment reminds me why I started,” Plotado said in his acceptance speech.
“Everything I do—whether in film, property, or charity—is about creating something that lasts, something that helps.”
The evening was made even more personal by what he wore: a custom sky-blue suit by internationally acclaimed Filipino designer Michael Cinco.
“For the longest time, I dreamed of wearing a Michael Cinco piece. Tonight, I’m wearing more than a suit. I’m wearing a piece of Filipino excellence,” Plotado shared.
The choice was symbolic. In a room filled with achievers from across continents, Plotado’s look quietly reflected pride in his roots and confidence in his global reach.
“It feels like carrying home with me wherever I go,” he added.
“No matter where I stand, I remain Filipino.”
In mid-2025, he finalized a landmark AED 1-billion beachfront development on Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah—one of the region’s most ambitious Filipino-led property ventures.
“That deal was about trust,” he said. “Trust in our vision, in our team, and in what Filipinos can deliver on a global scale.”
In cinema, his production As The Call, So The Echo earned international attention at the Emirates Film Festival, winning Best Actor and Best Director.
“Film is where my heart began,” Plotado reflected.
“Every story we tell is a mirror of who we are and what we believe in.”
Away from red carpets and contracts, Plotado’s most consistent work has been in education and community service.
In 2025, he organized a major alumni and community gathering for his alma mater, donating more than PHP 1 million and personally honoring former teachers and classmates. He also provided equipment and transportation support to Potrero National High School in Malabon.
“Success means nothing if you don’t bring others with you,” he added.
“I measure my wins by how many lives I’ve been able to touch.”
The Dubai ceremony also celebrated other Filipinos whose work continues to resonate worldwide. Among the honorees were Catriona Gray, awarded Global Icon of Beauty, Advocacy, and Culture; Piolo Pascual, honored for Lifetime Achievement in Filipino Arts and Global Representation; Atom Araullo, recognized for Public Service Journalism; Ricky Reyes, awarded for Beauty and Business Innovation; and Renee Salud, named Global Ambassador of Filipino Fashion and Heritage.
