Fire razed greens in Mankayan, Benguet

A fire ate a large portion of a forest land at the boundaries of Barangays Guinaoang and Bulalacao, Benguet on 4 February 2026. The blaze was declared fire-out around past 12 midnight. Investigation is ongoing.

BAGUIO CITY – The boundaries of Barangays Bulalacao and Guinaoang of Mankayan, Benguet were razed by a forest fire that broke out at Mt. Posdo on 4 February 2026.

This is the second fire reported in the area within the first week of February. ​According to Guinaoang Barangay Secretary Omar Lopez Damoslog, the first fire occurred on 3 February near Camantokob. That incident was successfully managed by community volunteers before it could spread further.

​On 4 February,  a fire in the Manpey-as area of Barangay Bulalacao. The flames subsequently moved toward the neighboring Barangay Guinaoang.

​Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection and local volunteers are currently on-site. Emergency responders are working to contain the fire and establish perimeters to prevent the flames from reaching nearby residential structures. The fire was suppressed at past 12 midnight.

Details on the fire are yet to be provided by the BFP Mankayan after the conduct of an investigation.
