The EDSA Busway saw a 6 percent increase in ridership last year, serving 66.7 million passengers as commuters continue to flock to the dedicated transit lane, according to Department of Transportation (DoTr) data released Monday.
The 2025 figures surpassed the 63 million passengers recorded in 2024. Ridership reached a monthly record of 6.5 million in December 2025, while the single-day peak occurred in April 2025 with 321,000 passengers. Since its inception in June 2020, the system has carried a cumulative total of 341.3 million people.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the agency plans to modernize the system further in 2026.
“We still have many improvements to make, such as the more modern Kamuning Busway station and three additional new busway stations in 2026 to ensure that passengers have a more comfortable and faster travel experience,” Lopez said.
The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) also reported significant growth, with annual foot traffic rising to 60.3 million in 2025, up from 51.6 million the previous year. December alone saw 5.7 million passengers, more than half of whom traveled during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Lopez said the DoTr and PITX management are coordinating to ensure a sufficient supply of buses and tightened security to handle the growing volume.
