EDSA rehab enters 2nd phase, motorists face lane closures

Motorists along EDSA’s southbound lanes face another round of traffic disruptions this weekend as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) proceeds with the second phase of its road rehabilitation program from Monumento to Balintawak.
The DPWH said Saturday that the rehabilitation works began at 10 p.m. on Friday, 16 October, and will continue around the clock until Sunday, 18 October, affecting several sections of one of Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfares.
The affected southbound sections include Balintawak to Roosevelt near Zinnia Road, Kaingin Road to the North Avenue Bus Station, and Monumento Bus Station to Monumento near A. De Jesus Road.
The agency said the rehabilitation activities will be carried out simultaneously across the identified sections to accelerate road improvements and minimize prolonged disruptions to motorists.
Breaking and hauling operations began Friday night, followed by base preparation, installation of reinforcing steel bars, and concrete pouring throughout Saturday.
Cutting, sealant application, concrete curing, and clearing operations are scheduled for Sunday.
While portions of the affected road sections will be temporarily closed, the DPWH assured motorists that other lanes will remain passable throughout the rehabilitation period.
The agency advised motorists to anticipate possible traffic congestion, observe traffic advisories and consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
The affected lanes are scheduled to reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. on Monday, 19 October, ahead of the weekday morning rush.
The ehabilitation is part of the government’s broader effort to improve road conditions along EDSA, a major transport corridor connecting key commercial and business districts across Metro Manila.
