Cainta launches town-wide sweeping program

Cainta Mayor Keith Nieto has launched an expansive “townwide sweep” program aimed at making this municipality one of the cleanest in the country through a combination of local government action and resident responsibility.

The campaign centers on the theme “Tapat ko, Sagot ko,” which calls on residents and business owners to maintain the cleanliness of the spaces directly in front of their properties.

“It’s actually one way of inviting everyone and encouraging them to be responsible for whatever happens in their areas,” Nieto said. “I want them to take an active part in making sure the place is orderly.”

The program targets several key issues, including waste segregation, pet waste, illegal parking, untrimmed trees and general street litter.

To ensure compliance, the local government has deployed teams to conduct regular inspections of residential and commercial areas.

Nieto said the municipality currently operates nine street-sweeping trucks that patrol the town daily. Garbage collection is scheduled once or twice weekly for residential zones and every other day for commercial establishments.

To improve sanitation infrastructure, the local government is upgrading transfer stations and installing wash pits and dipping areas. These measures are designed to prevent wastewater and trash from leaking onto primary roads.

Nieto also announced plans to acquire modern machinery to accelerate waste processing and recycling as an alternative to relying on landfills.

Additionally, the mayor has formed specialized teams to handle “unconventional waste” that standard garbage collectors typically bypass, such as wood, sand, stones, and broken furniture. Nieto noted that these items are often the primary cause of recurring clutter in the streets.
