The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday said it has intensified nationwide security measures ahead of New Year’s Eve, deploying nearly 57,000 personnel to ensure public safety during year-end celebrations.
PNP Acting Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. told reporters that a total of 56,785 personnel have been mobilized nationwide, including 33,020 police officers, 4,968 augmentation units, and 18,797 members of advocacy groups.
These officers are deployed in high-traffic areas, including major roads, transport terminals, commercial centers, coastal zones and residential neighborhoods.
Police Assistance Desks have also been activated to provide immediate assistance, information, and rapid response throughout the holiday period.
As part of its intensified crackdown on illegal firecrackers, the PNP reported that 79,953 prohibited pyrotechnics had been confiscated as of 7 a.m. on 28 December.
The seized items, valued at more than P1.22 million, were recovered from public markets, roadside vendors, and checkpoints nationwide.
To promote safer celebrations, local government units have designated 765 firecracker zones monitored by 1,655 personnel, as well as 741 Community Fireworks Display Areas staffed by 1,992 personnel, where the public can celebrate in regulated environments.
Nartatez said the heightened police visibility aims to give the public confidence as they welcome the new year.
“Our focus is to keep communities safe so families can celebrate with peace of mind,” he said, adding that police units are on standby to assist the public throughout the festivities.
The PNP has also strengthened patrols and checkpoints to deter criminal activity and promote road safety amid increased holiday travel.
Motorist assistance hubs have been deployed nationwide, manned by 11,129 personnel, including police officers, augmentation units, and members of advocacy groups, to provide aid to motorists.
Authorities reminded drivers to obey traffic rules and steer clear of risky behavior, emphasizing that responsible driving is key to preventing accidents during the busy holiday season.
The PNP said these measures are part of its operational focus on preventive policing, strengthened police operations, and active community collaboration.
Meanwhile, Nartatez urged the public to stay vigilant and cooperative, emphasizing that collective responsibility is essential for safe celebrations.
As 2026 approaches, Nartatez reaffirmed the PNP’s commitment to strengthening community engagement, modernizing police operations, and delivering accountable and responsive public service in line with the administration’s public safety agenda.
