Bukidnon’s Buda Road undergoes DPWH check

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon inspected the Buda Road section of the Bukidnon–Davao City Road which was recently damaged by a landslide.

The scrutiny was part of efforts to assess the condition of major national road networks and fast-track needed interventions.

The inspection was conducted at Sitio Kipolot, Barangay Palacapao, Quezon, Bukidnon, and focused on the current state of the roadway, ongoing and proposed improvement works, and measures to ensure safer, more reliable passage along the vital corridor.

Buda Road serves as a key link between Bukidnon and Davao City, facilitating the movement of people, agricultural products, and goods between Northern Mindanao and Davao Region. 

However, sections of the road have long faced challenges due to terrain, weather conditions and heavy vehicle traffic.

Looking for best approach 

Since the collapse, DPWH teams have conducted assessments and geotechnical studies to determine the best course of action for rehabilitation, including slope stabilization and potential road realignment. 

To minimize transport disruptions for residents and motorists, the DPWH has opened a temporary detour road around the damaged section, allowing limited passage while repairs are completed. 

Authorities stress that the detour is a short-term solution, and rehabilitation of the collapsed roadway itself could take between four and five months once soil testing and preparatory works are completed. 

The closure and limited access have affected local transport and logistics, leading to heavier reliance on alternative routes and raising concerns from businesses and transport operators about increased travel costs and delays. 

Dizon’s visit is expected to bring updated assessments and clarify projected timelines for restoring full connectivity along the BuDa Road. Members of the media have been invited to cover the inspection, with logistics coordination handled by the designated contact.
