CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) led a high-level delegation to Qatar to promote Mindanao as a prime tourism and investment destination, strengthening ties between the Philippines and Qatar.

Misamis Occidental Gov. Henry Oaminal, RDC-10 chairperson, promoted both his province and the wider Mindanao region in meetings with Qatar-based travel agencies and business leaders, highlighting natural attractions, cultural heritage, and growing tourism prospects.

The delegation joined the Qatar Travel Mart 2025, met with the Qatar Investment Authority, explored Sukuk bond opportunities, and paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Mardomel Celo D. Melicor. They also met with Qatari Diar, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Qatar Chamber of Commerce, Al Mansour Holding, and the Qatar Fund for Development, and visited Agrico’s trial center and an aquaculture farm.

The mission was led by MinDA Chair Secretary Leo Tereso A. Magno, joined by Rep. Jason Almonte, Gov. Oaminal, NCMF Secretary Sheikh Sabuddin Abdurahim, SPDA Administrator Abdulghani Salapuddin, DoT officials, and private-sector partners. MinDA said the initiative aims to expand Mindanao’s global presence and attract investments in tourism, logistics, digital industries and hospitality.

Mindanao steps onto global stage

MinDA and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) are also pursuing high-impact partnerships through their participation in QTM 2025, positioning Mindanao’s priority sectors before global tourism and investment decision-makers.

QTM provides a platform to highlight Mindanao’s tourism assets, investment-ready projects and economic opportunities. Insights from the event’s conference on sustainability, innovation, and digital transformation are expected to enhance Mindanao’s tourism strategies and policy development.

MinDA said the mission supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s priorities for Mindanao — boosting connectivity, strengthening peace-driven development, and integrating the region into global markets. Ongoing infrastructure improvements such as airport and seaport upgrades and better digital connectivity help position Mindanao competitively within the ASEAN economic corridor.
