Philippine National Police (PNP) acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Tuesday announced that disaster response units have been fully activated in preparation for Tropical Depression Verbena.
“Our priority is the safety of every resident, so we are coordinating with local government units and other agencies to ensure quick action once needed,” Nartatez said.
He added that officers in affected areas are following strict safety protocols to guarantee timely assistance to those in need.
The PNP chief also urged residents to stay indoors, avoid flooded areas, monitor weather updates, and prepare emergency kits. “Let’s also be cautious of fake news that could cause panic,” he said.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA) 11 a.m. bulletin, Verbena has passed over Guimaras and southwestern Panay and is now over the Sulu Sea.
