Ahtisa Manalo returned to the Miss Universe spotlight with a force that felt both familiar and electrifying, delivering a preliminary performance in Thailand that affirmed her status as one of the competition’s most formidable contenders. On Nov. 19, at the Impact Challenger Hall in Nonthaburi, the Filipina queen delivered a swimsuit and evening gown presentation that blended technique, storytelling, and unmistakable confidence—turning the stage into her personal arena.
From the moment she stepped out in her cobalt blue two-piece from BENCH’s “Power of Love” collection, Ahtisa reignited the move that made her a viral sensation: the pivot. She began with a confident hip thrust, transitioned into a slow, controlled spin, and snapped into her signature pivot turn—sharp, fluid, and instantly recognizable. The maneuver, which she first debuted during her national pageant, has since taken on a life of its own, inspiring countless fan recreations and solidifying itself as a staple of her stage identity.
Her swimsuit look paid homage to Miss Universe’s commitment to inclusivity. Delegates chose from silhouettes and colors inspired by the Pride flag, with contestants like Pakistan’s Roma Riaz opting for a full-coverage burkini and Palestine’s Nadeen Ayoub donning a tank top-and-leggings ensemble. Ahtisa, in contrast, leaned into sleek elegance—her blue suit accentuating her toned core, long legs, and controlled but commanding walk.
The spotlight remained on Filipino artistry as Ahtisa returned to the stage in a Mak Tumang masterpiece for the evening gown segment. Under the lights, she appeared almost elemental—glittering, fluid, and regal. Tumang’s creation, titled “Pinctada,” drew from the depths of the sea, echoing the iridescence of Pinctada maxima, the South Sea pearl oyster. With a jewel-encrusted bustier, dramatic slit, oceanic hues, and sunburst-inspired gold details, the gown transformed Ahtisa into a luminous vision poised between elegance and myth. Her look was completed with exquisite South Sea pearl accessories from Jewelmer, further grounding her appearance in Filipino luxury craftsmanship.
R’Bonney Gabriel, Miss Universe 2022 and the event’s solo host and narrator, underscored Ahtisa’s story as she walked, highlighting her humble beginnings and the childhood pageant that first helped fund her education. The roar of the live audience made clear that her journey—and her performance—resonated deeply.
Earlier in the day, Ahtisa also stunned in her national costume, “Festejada,” another Mak Tumang creation celebrating the Philippines’ iconic festivals. The design exploded with color, movement, and symbolism, embodying the joy and heritage of Filipino fiestas.
With fan votes for categories like Best Evening Gown and People’s Choice now open on the Miss Universe app, supporters worldwide have the chance to help propel her toward the semifinals.
As the Philippines aims for its fifth Miss Universe crown—seven years after Catriona Gray’s history-making win in the same venue—Ahtisa Manalo stands at the center of anticipation. Her preliminary performance was not just a showcase; it was a statement. One of readiness. One of evolution. One of a queen fully in command of her moment.
The Miss Universe 2025 coronation takes place on Nov. 21 at the Impact Challenger Hall, where reigning queen Victoria Kjær Theilvig will crown her successor. All eyes now return to Ahtisa—her moves, her message, her momentum—carrying the hopes of the Philippines back to a stage where history has been made before.
