BAGUIO CITY — A Baguio City councilor claimed that a common complaint among residents is the lack of priority service at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).
According to Councilor Elmer Datuin, this prompted city officials to explore the possibility of establishing a hospital exclusively for Baguio residents. He admitted, however, that while the intention is good, implementing the project would be complex — which is why a feasibility study was first proposed and initiated.
He estimated that the study could be completed by March or April 2026. The local legislator added that if the study finds the city is not yet capable of building its own City Hospital, he hopes BGHMC authorities will find a way to prioritize city residents.
Datuin noted that the Summer Capital of the Philippines is a highly urbanized city but still lacks its own city-run hospital.
Baguio City Health Services Office (CHSO) Chief Celia Brillantes agreed with the initiative. She expressed hope that if the City Hospital is eventually established, it could accommodate 100 to 200 patients.
Brillantes also mentioned that the city is becoming a medical tourism center. She explained that many individuals travel to Baguio for consultations or hospital admissions due to the quality services provided by medical professionals.
