In the ever-evolving world of beauty pageants, where crowns may change but character remains the truest test, Ahtisa Manalo stands as a symbol of grace, growth, and grit. From her early days as a small-town dreamer in Quezon to becoming Miss Universe Philippines 2025, Manalo’s journey is a story of quiet perseverance, second chances, and an unwavering belief in destiny.

From Candelaria to the universe

Born on May 25, 1997, in Candelaria, Quezon, Ahtisa was raised by her grandmother, who instilled in her discipline and compassion from an early age. With a Filipino-Spanish mother and a Finnish-Swedish father, Ahtisa’s heritage reflects a blend of worlds—much like the balance she’s learned to embody in her life.

Her beginnings were far from glamorous. She once dreamed of joining the Philippine National Police Academy, but life had other plans. To support her education, she joined small-town pageants as a child—competitions that would unknowingly prepare her for the national and international stages ahead.

The spark of a young queen

Ahtisa’s rise began in 2018 when she competed at Binibining Pilipinas, where she was crowned Binibining Pilipinas International at just 20 years old—the youngest in that batch. Her maturity, eloquence, and composure during the question-and-answer round captured both the judges’ and the public’s attention.

Later that year, she represented the Philippines at Miss International 2018 in Tokyo, Japan. With her trademark poise and a gown by Michael Cinco, she charmed her way to becoming first runner-up, narrowly missing the crown but earning immense respect from the global pageant community. Her speech on youth leadership and resilience remains one of the most memorable in Miss International history.

Stepping away, then rising again

After her Miss International success, Ahtisa took a step back from pageantry. The years that followed saw her quietly working on herself—focusing on health, business ventures, and her mental well-being. She later revealed that her brief hiatus was both necessary and healing: “You can’t give the world your best if you haven’t given yourself the time to grow.”

But true queens never fade—they evolve.

In 2024, she made a highly anticipated comeback at Miss Universe Philippines, representing her home province of Quezon. With her signature calm confidence and regal stage presence, she quickly became a frontrunner. She placed as second runner-up, later earning the title Miss Cosmo Philippines 2024, where she represented the country and finished in the Top 10 internationally despite a minor stage injury during rehearsals.

Even when the spotlight dimmed, Ahtisa’s spirit shone. She reminded fans to champion kindness over competition—urging them not to spread negativity online, a move that earned her even greater admiration.

A crown earned twice

In early 2025, destiny called again. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Ahtisa was reappointed as Miss Universe Philippines–Quezon for another chance at the crown. With renewed focus, she poured everything into her second attempt—refining her walk, deepening her advocacy, and reconnecting with her supporters.

Her performance in the preliminaries was nothing short of remarkable. She won several special awards, and her national costume—inspired by the mythical tiktik and designed by Ehrran Montoya—earned praise for its craftsmanship and symbolism.

During the finals, a brief stumble in the evening gown segment turned into a defining moment. Ahtisa recovered gracefully, turning what could have been a setback into a statement of strength—drawing comparisons to Miriam Quiambao’s iconic recovery at Miss Universe 1999.

In the Q&A round, she spoke about leadership and perseverance, referencing her onstage fall as a metaphor for life’s inevitable challenges. “Falling doesn’t define you,” she said. “How you rise after the fall—that’s what makes you a leader.”

When the dust settled, the crown that once eluded her was finally hers. In May 2025, Ahtisa Manalo was officially crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2025, succeeding Chelsea Manalo of Bulacan.

Beyond beauty: A voice for the youth

Ahtisa’s advocacy centers on education and youth leadership, a cause close to her heart. Through her platform, she aims to empower young Filipinos—especially those from rural areas—to believe that ambition and humility can coexist. “Knowledge is power,” she often says, “but kindness gives that power purpose.”

Her experience as a working student, her time helping her grandmother manage daily struggles, and her journey through public scrutiny have shaped her worldview: that empathy is the most beautiful trait a person can possess.

The road to Miss Universe 2025

Now representing the Philippines at the Miss Universe 2025 competition in Thailand, Ahtisa continues to make headlines as one of the global frontrunners. For her national costume, she will wear an intricate piece by Mak Tumang, while her evening gown will be a collaboration with designer Val Tagluba—both envisioned to reflect the balance between strength and serenity that defines her reign.

Whether she brings home another international crown or not, Ahtisa Manalo has already cemented her legacy as a symbol of grace, authenticity, and resilience.

A queen with quiet power

Ahtisa’s story isn’t just about crowns and titles—it’s about evolution. It’s about a young girl from Quezon who faced rejection, stumbled in public, and rose every time with more compassion than before.

Her reign as Miss Universe Philippines 2025 reminds the world that beauty queens are no longer just icons of glamour—they are storytellers, advocates, and reflections of the people they represent.

In her own words:

“Every journey has pauses, but it doesn’t mean it ends there. Sometimes, the waiting is part of becoming.”

And for Ahtisa Manalo, the wait was worth every moment.
