An unannounced earthquake drill was conducted in public schools in Muntinlupa City on Thursday, 16 October, as part of the local government’s disaster preparedness efforts.
The activity followed a similar drill at City Hall on 14 October and will be succeeded by additional earthquake preparedness measures in the coming weeks.
According to Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon, the city regularly participates in the Quarterly National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill held nationwide every three months, with the next one scheduled for 6 November.
Biazon also said the city government continues to strengthen the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) through ongoing rescue training, public information drives, and community-wide drills.
“To survive an earthquake, the first thing we need is knowledge of duck, cover, and hold, and of properly evacuating toward a safe area,” Biazon said.
In addition to the drills, emergency kits and hard hats have been distributed in classrooms, while the City Engineering Department and the Schools Division Office of Muntinlupa have conducted inspections of school facilities to ensure safety and structural integrity.
