ILOILO CITY — Passengers flying out of the Iloilo International Airport can now move through terminals more quickly after authorities removed the initial security screening checkpoint — a reform ordered by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to modernize airport operations nationwide.

The new setup, implemented on 10 October, follows a directive from DoTr Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez aimed at eliminating redundant inspections, easing congestion, and improving overall passenger experience while maintaining strict international security standards.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Ret. Lt. Gen. Raul del Rosario said the change reflects the government’s goal of creating “smart, secure, and seamless” travel.

“This move enhances passenger comfort without compromising safety, putting our airports at par with global practices,” Del Rosario said.

To complement the shift, airport authorities have reopened the Employees’ Entrance, providing a secure and exclusive access route for personnel and improving coordination within the terminal.

Engr. Eusebio Monserate Jr., acting area manager of CAAP Area Center VI, said the reforms mark a milestone in airport efficiency.

“We’re streamlining processes without sacrificing security. This is modern airport management in action,” Monserate noted.

Ahead of the rollout, the Airport Security Committee fine-tuned procedures, redeployed screening equipment, and reorganized manpower to ensure full compliance with safety standards under the new system.

Officials assured the public that despite the scrapping of the first checkpoint, Iloilo International Airport remains fully compliant with global aviation safety protocols — merging speed, security and service into one seamless experience.
