A man dubbed the “Lowbat Sidecar Boy” was taken into custody by Manila police after a video of him blocking traffic with his sidecar went viral on social media.
The man was filmed on Quezon Street in Tondo, where his sidecar was causing a major traffic jam. The Manila Police District quickly acted on the complaint after the video reached city officials.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso shared an update on the incident on his Facebook page, which included photos of him flicking the man’s ear.
“I will repeat — there is already a government in Manila. The ‘tough guy’ attitude and causing trouble on the streets will no longer be tolerated,” Domagoso said in a post. “Now it’s just a flick on the ear. The next time you break a serious law, there will be serious consequences.”
The man earned the nickname “Lowbat Sidecar Boy” after the video showed him seemingly unconcerned about the traffic he was causing. The post, which circulated widely on Facebook, showed motorists and commuters stuck in the area.
Domagoso expressed gratitude to citizens for reporting the incident.
“To our netizens, thank you very much for your help. Just keep tagging our city government, and we will address it immediately,” said Domagoso, adding that the incident serves as a reminder that the local government is serious about implementing order and discipline, especially on public roads.
