A still unidentified woman believed to have a mental condition died after jumping into a lake at Pritil Wharf, Barangay Libis, Binangonan, Rizal, authorities said Wednesday.
Investigation revealed that at about 10:06 PM Tuesday, a 65-year-old female fish vendor saw the woman vomiting near the lake. The woman then walked toward the water and jumped in.
The witness sought assistance from her fellow vendors and the Philippine Coast Guard stationed in the barangay.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) immediately conducted a search and rescue operation, but efforts were hampered by unfavorable weather conditions.
At about 7 AM the following day, the PCG resumed operations and eventually found the woman’s lifeless body in the lake.
Witnesses said the woman had a mental condition and had been staying at Pritil Wharf for only four days.
The victim was described as about 25 to 35 years old, 4’10” to 5’1” tall, weighing around 50 kilos, with shoulder-length curly hair. She was wearing a yellow T-shirt and black-and-white shorts when discovered.
Authorities are conducting an investigation to establish the woman’s identity.
