A suspected basag-kotse thief was swiftly arrested by authorities after breaking into a parked car along Marcos Highway in Barangay Mambugan, Antipolo City, on Friday night.
Initial police investigation revealed that the complainant — a 26-year-old female architect — was with her boyfriend and some friends outside Lumang Bayan Executive Village, enjoying street food while waiting for other companions. During this time, they witnessed the suspect smash the left rear passenger window of a Honda Civic, which belonged to the father of her boyfriend.
The suspect snatched the complainant’s bag from inside the vehicle and fled aboard a motorcycle driven by an accomplice, heading toward the Masinag intersection.
The complainant and her boyfriend attempted to pursue the suspects using their own vehicle but were unsuccessful. However, they encountered patrolling officers from the Antipolo police and immediately sought help.
The responding officers successfully arrested one of the suspects and recovered the stolen items. The motorcycle driver managed to escape and remains at large.
Among the recovered items were a laptop, a cellphone, apartment door keys, and an AquaFlask tumbler.
The Antipolo police are now preparing the necessary documents for the filing of criminal complaints against the arrested suspect.
