The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is exploring a pilot housing rental project at the University of the Philippines Diliman as part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) program.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, UP President Angelo Jimenez, and other officials from both agencies met Thursday evening at UP Diliman to discuss the initiative. The meeting reaffirmed their commitment to operationalize the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between DHSUD and UP through a rental housing scheme benefiting the UP community.
Secretary Aliling pledged funding support and technical assistance to ensure the project’s success. "Once approved, DHSUD stands committed to fund the land development portion for the pilot project," he said.
The initiative also has backing from the Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG Fund), with CEO Marilene Acosta and other key officials attending the meeting.
Since assuming office, Secretary Aliling has directed the expansion of the recalibrated 4PH program to cover all housing modalities, including horizontal socialized housing and rental housing, moving beyond its previous focus on vertical condominium-style developments aimed at targeted beneficiaries.
Aliling tasked his team to collaborate closely with UP management for the smooth rollout of the pilot rental housing project under the expanded 4PH.
