The fatality, identified as Police Staff Sergeant Bryan Cainoy, was killed when the motorcycle he was driving collided head-on with a private car in Barangay Lunao.
In a separate accident earlier that day, nine passengers were injured when a multicab they were riding crashed into a sari-sari store in Barangay San Luis, also in Gingoog City.
Responding rescue teams brought the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to police investigation, Cainoy, who was assigned to the PNP Mobile Force Company in Misamis Oriental, was on his way home from duty in Medina town when he lost control of his motorcycle near a bridge in Barangay Lunao and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
