City of San Fernando, Pampanga — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 3 (BFAR-3) and the provincial government of Pampanga recently conducted a two-day workshop focused on improving disaster preparedness and response among local fisheries extension officers.

The Damage Reporting System Workshop, held at the Pampanga Provincial Veterinary Office, aimed to strengthen the capacity of these officers in assessing and reporting fisheries-related damages.

Representatives from various BFAR-3 units, including aquaculture, postharvest, capture, and training sections, attended the workshop.

A key focus of the training was the DALA (Damage Assessment and Loss Appraisal) form, a standardized tool used to report damages in the fisheries sector. The program included technical discussions and practical workshops on cost estimation and proper form completion.

Participants engaged in team-based activities covering freshwater, brackishwater, capture, and postharvest sectors. Through simulation exercises and guided workshops, they practiced accurately filling out the DALA form.

The workshop concluded with discussions on future steps, closing remarks, and the awarding of certificates of participation. BFAR3 emphasized the workshop as a significant step toward enhancing regional disaster resilience.

The initiative aligns with BFAR-3’s broader mission to ensure responsive and science-based management of fisheries and aquatic resources in Central Luzon, particularly in light of increasing climate-related risks and disasters.
