The Philippine entertainment industry lost one of its most beloved figures with the passing of veteran actor and director Ricky Davao. His daughter, actress Ara Davao, announced the heartbreaking news via a statement on social media, revealing that her father passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children and loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer.
“For more than four decades, he dedicated his life to the craft of acting and directing,” Ara wrote. “His remarkable body of work and award-winning performances have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire. Most of all, he was a loving father, brother, son, and friend.”
Ricky Davao was more than just an acclaimed performer — he was a symbol of artistic excellence and integrity. With a career spanning theater, television, and film, he earned accolades and admiration for his powerful portrayals, masterful direction, and unwavering commitment to his craft. From his early days as a heartthrob in the 1980s to his later years as a sought-after character actor and television director, Davao consistently elevated every project he was part of.
Colleagues and fans alike remember him not only for his talent but also for his kindness and quiet strength. In every role — onscreen and off — he was a mentor, collaborator, and friend.
While the industry grieves, so too does a family who knew him not just as an icon, but as a father. Ricky Davao leaves behind a legacy not only of brilliant performances but also of deep love, dedication, and grace.
As the Davao family prepares to honor his memory, Ara thanked supporters for their outpouring of prayers and kindness.
“We are deeply grateful for your prayers, love, and kind messages during this difficult time.”
Details of his memorial service will be shared soon. In the meantime, the lights of Philippine cinema dim a little tonight as we bid farewell to a true pillar of the arts.
Rest in peace, Ricky Davao. Your stories will live on.
